Foreign minister decries negative stereotype of women
Bonino says not interested in Berlusconi's private life25 October, 13:36
During an interview with the BBC, Bonino said that there is a movement in Italy to try to change the stereotypical presentation of women as showgirls who are not serious or intelligent.
That image has been reinforced with intense media coverage of criminal trials involving allegedly wild parties that included prostitutes at Berlusconi's villa near Milan.
"I do not care about the private life of Silvio Berlusconi," but the female stereotypes portrayed in the scandals are worrisome, said Bonino.
"There is a movement that wants Italy to overcome this stereotype," she said.
