Pisa research centre unveils robotic hand
Human muscles control device24 October, 17:22
The Pisa-IIT SoftHand was developed by the Enrico Piaggio research centre at the University of Pisa, which specializes in automation, bioengineering and robotics. Researchers at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Genoa contributed to the project.
Antonio Bicchi, coordinator of the robotics group at the Pisa centre, said that a single motor operates the robotic arm which is driven by human muscle movements.
"The novelty is that this single motor can be controlled by the arm muscle not only in the execution of the movement but also in the intensity" of movements, said Bicchi.
