Man severs traffic cop's finger (ANSA) - Rome, October 24 - A Rome traffic police officer faced surgery to try to re-attach a finger that was almost bitten off Thursday by an irate scooter driver who tried to run down two female officers.

The accused, who police say tried to mow down the traffic wardens when they pulled him over, was taken to a Rome police station for questioning where he bit the interrogating officer.
