Minister says Berlusconi could benefit from amnesty

He is expected to lose his Senate seat later this month.
"If the political parties decide on an amnesty, as requested by Europe, it's clear that this must be valid for everyone," Quagliariello said.
"It is unthinkable that it would be valid for everyone except one, as the law is the same for everyone". Cancellieri, on the other hand, replied "No, I definitely think not" last week when asked if the amnesty would apply to the three-time premier. She said the amnesty would likely cut four years off jail terms and reduce numbers in Italy's bursting jails by about 20,000.
Italian President Giorgio Napolitano last week urged lawmakers to pass an amnesty to cut jail overcrowding he called "a disgrace".
