Civil aviation authority chief hails Alitalia bail-out plan
'Great step forward', says Riggio of cash injection from Poste11 October, 13:34
Poste Italiane is set to give Alitalia 75 million euros to keep it in the air. The air carrier filed for bankruptcy in August with high staff costs and mounting oil prices, among others, weighing on its finances. The airline had gone bankrupt in 2008 and was re-launched the following year.
ENAC warned on Thursday it would ground the airline unless it obtained a 500-million-euro cash injection by Saturday.
Alitalia is expected to have further talks on a 300-million-euro recapitalisation and 200 million euros in bank loans on Friday. Reports have suggested a merger with Air France-KLM could take place once Alitalia gets back on its feet.
