A double by captain Francesco Totti and a goal by Alessandro Florenzi enabled Roma to notch their seventh consecutive win of the campaign on Saturday and take their points tally to 21.
Napoli kept on their heels by hammering Livorno 4-0 at home on Sunday, while Juve came from behind to beat AC Milan 3-2 in Turin with goals by Andrea Pirlo, Giorgio Chiellini and Sebastian Giovinco.
The villain of the encounter in Turin was Milan's French defender Philippe Mexes, who was sent off for two yellow cards, by should have been ejected beforehand for a punch on Chiellini that the officials did not see.
Inter are seven points behind Roma in fourth place, while Milan are 13th points off the pace in 12th.
