Plan to travel to 'see with my own eyes,' Barroso says07 October, 19:32
"I will travel to Lampedusa tomorrow to see with my own eyes" what happened and what "we can do together" to resolve the situation, Barroso said at the opening of the European Regions and Territories Open Days session in Brussels.
The boat is thought to have been carrying more than 500 migrants, mostly Eritreans and Somalis, when it went down. Italian Integration Minister Cecile Kyenge visited Lampedusa on Sunday and renewed calls for reform of Italy's tough immigration law, which makes being an undocumented migrant a criminal offence.
