'Pilgrimage of love' says Pope Francis in Assisi
Namesake saint 'loved everyone' says pontiff04 October, 10:38
"My visit is above all a pilgrimage of love, to pray at the tomb of a man who cast off everything he had and clothed himself in Christ, who loved everyone, especially the poorest and most abandoned, who loved God's creation with wonder and simplicity," Francis said during a visit to an institute for handicapped children.
"Today is St. Francis' feast day, and I chose his name," the pope said shortly before praying at the saint's tomb.
Francis said if the faithful did not imitate the saint who shunned the material for the spiritual, "we become pastry-shop Christians".
