Steve McCurry exhibition opening in Assisi
'Sensational Umbria' photo display shows beauty of region01 October, 18:25
"Sensational Umbria" captures Assisi's historic Basilica of San Francesco, bathed in the light and shadows cast by Mount Subasio; the daily life of the monks who live and work in the Abbey of Sassovivo; and even the medieval alleys of the village of Spello.
With 100 photos by the well-known American photographer, arranged on a series of large light panels, the exhibition will continue in Assisi's Sala delle Volte until Oct. 15.
The show, which includes views from the spectacular mountain village of Castelluccio di Norcia, has been travelling to other Italian cities including Milan last spring, and Perugia's famous Corso Vannucci for the 40th anniversary of the Umbrian Jazz festival during the summer.
McCurry's stunning images have been a strong vehicle for the promotion of the cultural and physical beauty of Umbria, said Regional President Catiuscia Marini.
In November, "Sensational Umbria" will travel to the United States to be exhibited in New York City's food headquarters of Eataly, to help promote Umbria internationally.
