Squinzi calls for common sense in government
Madness to allow government to collapse, says businessman01 October, 19:01
"I do not have a crystal ball, but it is madness to risk cancelling the sacrifices of Italian companies over the last four or five years," he said outside a conference on Sardinia.
"I hope common sense will prevail".
The Italian government is teetering on the brink of collapse after the People of Freedom (PdL) pulled its members from the coalition government's cabinet on the weekend.
Squinzi said he feared that if more chaos follows, the economy will be badly damaged and businesses undermined further.
And that, he warned, could lead to intervention in the Italian economy by European officials.
"I hope that all of this instability does not lead to an injunction from Europe and a management commissioner," as could be required if Italy were forced to seek financial assistance from its European Union partners, said Squinzi.
