Letta to demand clarification on support, 'no ifs, no buts'
Premier meets party leaders with govt close to collapse27 September, 18:52
Letta's executive is teetering on the brink of collapse after lawmakers from Silvio Berlusconi's People of Freedom (PdL) party vowed to quit parliament en masse if the centre-right leader is ejected from his Senate seat following a tax-fraud conviction.
On Friday Letta met Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Angelino Alfano, the PdL secretary, Guglielmo Epifani, the secretary of the premier's own centre-left Democratic Party (PD), and his predecessor Mario Monti, the head of the small centrist Civic Choice party. Later on Friday he went to discuss the situation with President Giorgio Napolitano.
