Court orders release of 250 million euros in Ligresti assets
Luxury hotels, real-estate handed back to former Fonsai dynasty26 September, 16:01
The assets release, which included hotels, real-estate and various accounts, came after requests from the lawyers of Ligresti, the former honorary chairman of Fonsai who was recently put under house arrest along with two former executives from the insurance company.
Ligresti and associates are accused of cooking the books at Fonsai to the tune of 600 million euros in the 2010 balance sheet.
Fonsai is seeking 32 million euros in damages from the former majority shareholders in addition to a 245-million-euro payout approved in March.
Last week Giulia Maria Ligresti, the daughter of Salvatore Ligresti, was released after she bargained a reduced sentence earlier this month.
She had been ordered to serve two years and eight months in custody, plus a 20,000-euro fine, for her part in the Fonsai scandal.
In a deal approved by the Turin court, Ligresti also agreed hand over her real-estate assets, which some say could be worth several million euros.
