Musical brings pope John Paul II to life
Story of Karol Wojtyla to tour around the globe24 September, 17:01
The show "Karol Wojtyla: The True Story", directed by Duccio Forzano, with music by Noa and choreography by Marco Sellati, begins with the near-fatal shooting of the former pope in St. Peter's Square on May 13, 1981.
As the stricken pope, who ultimately died in 2005, lies suspended between life and death, his memories form the basis of the musical.
"We will tell the story of young Karol: his affections, the war, his mother Emilia, his military father, his brother...all of the elements that have formed the pope," said Forzano.
John Paul will be performed by three actors in three different ages: Alessandro Bendinelli as the nine-year-old Karol; Mikee Introna at 20; and finally Massimiliano Colonna as the 50-year-old.
