Letta says Europe has no more alibis on growth

"After the German elections there are no more alibis," Letta said during a visit to the Council of Foreign Relations in New York.
"We have to put growth at the centre in the EU.
"A new European approach is needed. If Europe is just taxes, austerity and recession with no light at the end of the tunnel, it's impossible to convince people to make the necessary sacrifices". Merkel is widely portrayed as being the main champion of the austerity policies the EU has demanded of countries at the centre of the eurozone debt crisis.
