A date for the visit will be set "soon", the delegation said.
The pope's father, from a small town outside Asti, briefly worked for the railways before reportedly fleeing the Fascist regime. His grandfather had a food store in Asti.
The pope, formerly Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Buenos Aires, speaks fluent Italian with a slight Spanish inflection.
After his surprise election as the first pope from the Americas in mid-March his relatives in and around Asti told reporters they were hoping for a family reunion.
