Prices may be falling for rare, prized truffles
Producers worried about crisis hitting market20 September, 11:30
The white truffle of Alba, dubbed the "king of the table", is expected to be particularly fine this year, thanks to widespread rains and damp during the recent summer.
Truffle-hunters have held off for a few days, but are expected to begin their harvest on Saturday, amid fears that prices for the treasured fungus will be weak.
The test of that will come with the International White Truffle of Alba market, which will start on Oct. 12.
The event usually guarantees earnings of more than 10 million euro from visitors drawn from all of the world.
Nations with high levels of truffle lovers include Switzerland, Germany, France and Russia.
