The wrangling over Berlusconi's claims that biased magistrates have attacked him for 20 years and are now forcing him from parliament after a tax-fraud conviction should cease "in the interests of Italy," said the president.
Berlusconi launched a new version of his first party, Forza Italia, in a video message this week, urging Italians to help him rein in allegedly biased magistrates.
Premier Enrico Letta of the Democratic Party, Berlusconi's uneasy government ally, rebutted Berlusconi's claims the judiciary is hostile to the three-time premier on political grounds.
