Privatization to be part of Destination Italy programme
Asset disposal to be added to budget19 September, 15:35
(ANSA) - Rome, September 19 - The Italian government Destination Italy programme ''begins a path of privatization'', Italian Premier Enrico Letta told journalists during a presentation on Thursday, after the package of measures aimed at encouraging foreign investment by simplifying and facilitating business in Italy was unveiled in a cabinet meeting.
Letta added that the disposal of public assets would also be added to the projected budget.
Letta underlined that not all public assets would be on the block, but ''only the right things to privatise, because the private sector is not always better than the public'' given past experience.
Letta predicted that privatisation would be ''a theme of the autumn'' as the economy ministry was already at work on it.
But asked whether the privatisations involved only real estate or also other assets, such as company stakes, Letta said ''it is still early'' to reveal that information.
