Judiciary body 'dismayed' by Berlusconi, says 'no plots'
CSM says 'rule of law' at risk19 September, 14:40
In the message released Wednesday, the ex-premier called on the Italian people to rebel and protest against the justice system, reiterating assertions he is the victim of persecution from left-leaning magistrates, after a tax-fraud conviction against him was upheld by the supreme court last month.
A CSM statement expressed "bitterness and dismay at the umpteenth repetition of scornful opinions and groundless attacks that hit the Italian judiciary in an indiscriminate way". Italy's judges "do not deserve to be accused of attempted persecution and plots", the CSM said. "The outcome of any trial after all the levels of justice are over is a sentence that should be respected and applied," the statement continued.
"Otherwise the rule of law and the conditions for orderly civil co-existence would disappear".
