Berlusconi to testify to Senate panel on ban Oct 4
Expected to be voted out mid-October19 September, 14:07
In the public hearing, centre-right leader Berlusconi is expected to argue that the law mandating the ban is being applied retroactively.
He has appealed to the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Justice on the same grounds.
The three-time premier's coalition partners in the centre-left Democratic Party have said they will enforce the law.
Berlusconi is expected to be formally voted out of the Senate in mid-October.
He has said he will carry on as leader of the centre right, revamping his party under its original name of Forza Italia (Go, Italy).
