The defendants, who almost all hail from Monaco, are accused of feigning tight friendship with the principality's monarch, Prince Albert II.
Businessman Mario Loffredo, owner of Extreme Gaming Pro, was allegedly hosted in Monaco and treated to dinners and luxury cars in a ruse to ply the money from him.
Loffredo invested a total of seven million euros in Montecarlo Poker Tour, including the pay-off to the Montecarlo clique.
The entrepeneur found that when another company copied the project, he was forced to liquidate his company.
Hearings for the trial will begin in October.
