Seven Italian films vie for foreign Oscar slot

"Miele" (Honey) is a debut film by director Valeria Golino about a 30-year-old woman whose clandestine job is to help terminally ill patients commit assisted suicide.
"Razza Bastarda" (Bastard Race) tells the story of an impoverished, drug-dealing Romanian immigrant who tries to give his son a better life, and is written, directed and starring Italian actor Alessandro Gassman, son of Italian screen legend Vittorio Gassman.
"Salvo" (Saved) is about a mafia henchman who kidnaps and falls in love with the blind sister of an assassination victim, directed by Antonio Piazza and Fabio Grassadonia.
"Viaggio Sola" (I Travel Alone) follows a single career woman in her 40s with a dream job assessing luxury hotels, and is directed by Maria Sole Tognazzi.
"Viva la Libertà" (Long Live Freedom) is a film in which an identical twin with a psychiatric disorder substitutes his politician brother, who has escaped his duties by fleeing to France, directed by Roberto Andò.
Also in the running is the thriller-horror film "Midway - Tra la Vita e la Morta" (Midway - Between Life and Death) by Sicilian director John Real, about a group of friends who go for a weekend in the woods and encounter the strange presences that are suspended between death and afterlife.
The 86th Academy Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2014.
