Study could lead to new treatments for obesity12 September, 18:11
The sense of hunger or lack of "are regulated by two specific hormones: in particular orexin-A that pushes the body to eat and leptin, which tells the brain that the amount of food ingested was sufficient," researchers from the Istituto di chimica biomolecolare (Icb) in Pozzuoli, Luigia Cristino and Vincenzo Di Marzo, said. Understanding the mechanisms could lead to developments in the cure for obesity, the researchers said.
Obesity is classified as a chronic illness and affects some 150 million adults in Europe.
