Barbara Berlusconi says father not a crook
Convicted ex-premier 'a businessman, not a criminal'11 September, 15:22
In an interview with ANSA, Barbara Berlusconi defended her father, who was found guilty of tax fraud last month after appealing to Italy's highest court.
"His (life) is a story of business and politics, but not of crime," said Barbara Berlusconi, 29, who sits on the board of her father's holding corporation Fininvest SpA.
"You can use many adjectives to describe Silvio Berlusconi, but not criminal".
Silvio Berlusconi, whose criminal conviction was upheld last month by Italy's top appeals court, is now at the centre of major political drama that threatens the future of Italy's fragile coalition left-right government.
Berlusconi and his centre-right People of Freedom (PdL) political party appear poised to bring down that government, led by rival Premier Enrico Letta and his Democratic Party (PD), if opponents vote to eject Berlusconi from his Senate seat due to his criminal conviction.
The PdL argues that the law allowing Berlusconi's ejection from parliament is unconstitutional.
