Portrait of Pope Francis created on field
Artist 'draws' pontiff's face on 25,000 square-meters of land03 September, 16:48
The portrait, titled "Love Liberates" is carved out of a 25,000-square-meter field by artist Dario Gambarin, known for his works of art created on large spaces.
Gambarin, who used a tractor but designed the portrait 'free hand' - with no points of reference on the ground – said he was inspired by Francis's efforts for peace.
"There are millions of people in the world, fascinated...by Pope Francis," explained Gambarin, whose previous field works have included United States President Barack Obama and footballer Mario Balotelli.
"His words, simple and direct, have no need of interpretation".
The artist acknowledged his portrait can only be seen from the air.
"But if we can raise our hearts even more, in addition to the angels, we will be able to see him".
