Mafia kingpin to remain in prison despite failing health
Prison not 'incompatible' with Provenzano's condition03 September, 13:12
In July, prosecutors from Palermo, Caltanissetta and Florence agreed to withdraw the so-called 41-bis treatment for Italy's most dangerous criminals imposed on Provenzano after his conviction in the assassinations of anti-mafia prosecutors.
However, anti-mafia judges said that prison conditions for the 80-year-old former boss were not "incompatible" with his health.
Arrested in 2006 after 43 years on the run, Provenzano's health is failing and his family has been calling for leniency.
