Fugitive ex-Berlusconi MP nabbed in Dubai
Matacena on run since June for mafia association29 August, 12:23
(ANSA) - Reggio Calabria, August 29 - Former Silvio Berlusconi MP Amedeo Matacena, who has been on the run since June after being given a five-year sentence for mafia association, was nabbed by local authorities in the United Arab Emirates city of Dubai on Thursday, police said.
Matacena was arrested in 2004 for seeking to intimidate a judicial body through violence or threats of violence and associating with the Calabria-based 'Ndrangheta mafia.
He was an MP for former premier Berlusconi's Forza Italia party, which later became the People of Freedom (PdL) party.
Matacena was also accused of having sought the electoral support of the Rosmini crime family, and he was spotted at events that suggested he had ties with organized crime, like the marriage of one of the sons of the Sinopoli syndicate's boss, Carmine Alvaro.
