Berlusconi legal team fights to keep Senate seat
'Ban unconstitutional, law kicked in too late'28 August, 15:04
The opinions, including some constitutional arguments, were presented to a committee involved in the Senate's vote on the question of whether to strip Berlusconi of his seat following a high-court ruling that upheld his first-ever binding conviction in a criminal court.
The Senate, where the centre-left Democratic Party (PD) holds a narrow majority, will decide next month whether to ratify stripping Berlusconi of his Senate seat.
Berlusconi argues that stripping him of his seat is unconstitutional since its basis is a new anti-corruption law that kicked in only after his August 1 conviction.
