Ex-husband arrested in acid attack case
'Burned victim's face and eye' at Italian hospital26 August, 15:55
Giuseppe Toscano was arrested for the acid attack at the Galliera hospital, following what police called "an escalation of improper activity towards his ex-wife since last May," when the couple separated.
Toscano allegedly stalked and harassed his former partner until he finally showed up at her office at the hospital and threw acid in her face earlier this month.
The attacker had worn a mask and sunglasses to hide his identity when he attacked the woman, who was rushed to a special eye clinic in San Martino hospital for treatment for deep burns to the retina of one eye and irritation to the other.
The attack came as Italian politicians have been working to develop a much tougher line against attacks and murders of women, often perpetrated by men known by the victims.
