PD economics chief says near solution for revamping IMU
Colannino says property tax will become 'service tax'23 August, 12:16
''We will find a solution on the IMU. We are going toward a service tax that will take a new look at the entire system. In that revision, there will be criteria for fairness and respect for state and city public finances. These are the constraints,'' Matteo Colannino said on Radio Anch'io. ''It is clear that with respect to fairness there will be a different tax burden for those who are better off and for those who have a hard time getting to the end of the month,'' Colannino added.
Rolling back IMU, which was reinstated by the previous government led by Mario Monti, was a campaign promise of ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi, whose center-right People of Freedom (PdL) roared to second in elections to become the junior partner in the current cabinet.
The PdL has threatened to pull its support from the government if their position is not upheld.
