(ANSA) - Rome, August 22 - Ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi
ruled out Thursday that his daughter and business heir Marina
would pick up his political mantle as leader of the center-right
People of Freedom (PdL) party.
"My daughter has been a lioness in her public appearances
in recent months. Her value as a person, an entrepreneur, a
woman, a citizen, is evident to everyone. I've given her some
advice, with love and I believe with foresight, and I am
absolutely sure she will not take the field in my place," said
the three-time premier in an interview with online daily Tempi.
In the face of persistent speculation to the contrary,
Marina has also said she does not want to succeed her father in
The future of the party has been in question since its
leader was definitively convicted of tax fraud at the start of
the month and now faces being stripped of his Senate seat in a
vote next month.
Whatever the outcome, the media magnate scoffed at the idea
of ceding the reigns of his party once again Thursday, and is
set to revamp the PdL under its original banner, Forza Italia.
