Ten thousand reported to police for stalking in last year

Since an anti-stalking law was passed in 2009, some police 38,142 reports have been filed, of which 10,000 only in the last year. Of the total in the last 12 months, 77% were filed by women.
Over the Ferragosto holiday, a 53-year old man in Legnano, Northern Italy was failed for alleged repeated mistreatment of his former partner, which resulted in her requiring dental assistance.
A second stalker, an alcoholic, was detained in custody in the business capital of Milan, for harassing a former partner and insisting she allow him into the house where he had been living some two years previously.
A 23-year old was arrested in Laureana di Borrello, in the southern Italian region of Calabria, for stalking both his current and his former girlfriends, and also for alleged attempted homicide after he tried to run over the new boyfriend of his former girlfriend twice with his car.
In addition, a 54-year-old was taken into custody in the northern Italian city of Verona, where he attacked and slapped a former girlfriend at her workplace, forcing her to the emergency ward for medical assistance.
A sixth man was taken into custody by police after he kicked and punched his wife in front of his two children in the southern Italian city of Naples.
