Only 1 in 26 students at Italian universities from abroad

(ANSA) - Rome, May 10 - Only 3.8% of Italian university
students are foreigners, compared to a European average of 8.6%,
according to a study released on Friday.There are 110,000 foreign students in Italian universities, and roughly one out of every 26 of them are from abroad, said a study by the European Migration Network called ''International students in Italian universities: empirical investigation and insights''.
A total of 51,947 non-European Union students studied in Italian universities during the 2011-2012 academic year, up from 22,951 in 2004.
Albania topped the list of regular enrollments with 11,802 students, followed by China with 6,161.
North American universities sent roughly 20,000 students for a portion of schooling to Italy.
