Instant trials in helicopter bribe case set for June 19
Finmeccania ex-CEO and AgustaWestland chief to face proceedings03 May, 13:59
A judge in the northern Italian town of Busto Arsizio granted a prosecutor’s request for the instant trial, which eliminates preliminary hearings.
Orsi and Spagnolini are suspected of corruption in relation to bribes allegedly paid to secure a contract to sell 12 AgustaWestland helicopters to India.
Authorities in both Italy and India have been investigating Finmeccanica, which employs some 70,000 around the world, over the alleged kickbacks paid in the sale of the helicopters to India.
Orsi and Spagnolini are both accused of corruption and issuing false invoices.
Orsi has been in jail since February 12, while Spagnolini has been under house arrest from the same date.
