Pope says fight all poverty, recalls St Francis
Francis talks to diplomatic corps from chair, not throne
22 March, 11:49
(ANSA) - Vatican City, March 22 - Pope France urged
ambassadors to the Vatican to help the Catholic Church fight
poverty worldwide Friday.
"How many poor people there are still in the world," the
pope told the diplomatic corps, asking them to "guard those who
suffer because of indigence".The pope recalled the Italian saint of the poor he chose his name for, Francis of Assisi, for his "fight against material poverty".
He also cited his predecessor Benedict XVI, who abdicated last month, for his spiritual fight against "the dictatorship of relativism".
Continuing the humble approach that has marked his week-old papacy, Francis did not sit on the traditional papal throne but on a plain white chair set on a small dais.
