Maltol may have cancer-fighting properties
'Prompts tumor cells to commit suicide' say Italian scientists

(ANSA) - Urbino, March 22 - Maltol, the naturally occurring
flavor enhancer, may also be a tumor fighter.
According to scientists at the University of Urbino, Italy,
a substance found inside the white crystalline powder produced
from roasted malt may produce molecules that prompt cancerous
cells to commit suicide.
The substance can also be produced from chicory, cacao,
coffee, and a variety of other natural products, say the
researchers.
