Berlusconi files to skip Mediaset appeals hearing

Another 'legitimate impediment' asked

Berlusconi files to skip Mediaset appeals hearing (ANSA) - Milan, March 22 - Ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi on Friday asked to skip a hearing Saturday in an appeal against a four-year sentence for tax fraud at his Mediaset media group.

Berlusconi says he has a "legitimate impediment" because he has to meet the executive of his People of Freedom party.

The ex-premier has frequently filed such requests in the Mediaset appeal and in a second trial where he is accused of paying for sex with an underage prostitute.

Some of them have been upheld, pushing back the expected date of verdicts which might have an impact amid the stalemate caused by last month's inconclusive general election and the prospect of a fresh vote.
