(ANSA)- Rome, March 21 - Center-left coalition leader Pier
Luigi Bersani, speaking after meeting with Italian president
Giorgio Napolitano in which the two discussed the possibility of
a government formation, said Italy needed change and also to be
headed by a government soon. The center-left Democratic Party (PD) "is at the disposal of the nation to help institute change for the financial crisis and in relation to values and principles", Bersani said.
The PD is the leading political party in Italy, Bersani said. Even so, there was no plan A or plan B should consultations held by Napolitano fail find a political leader that can gather enough support to cobble together an executive to be voted in by parliament. Napolitano has met with political leaders, including former premier Silvio Berlusconi, who heads the center-right People of Freedom party (PdL), and Beppe Grillo, the founder of the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S) that many dissatisfied voters turned to as a protest ballot.
