Italy urgently needs govt say bishops

'Stable team' to boost growth, help needy says Msgr Crociata

21 March, 13:50
Italy urgently needs govt say bishops (ANSA) - Rome, March 21 - Italy is in urgent need of a stable government to ensure sacrifices made by citizens to keep public accounts in order are not squandered, the secretary of the Italian Bishops Conference said Thursday.

"It is urgent that the Country has a stable government," said Msgr Mariano Crociata. He urged politicians currently trying to form a government despite a hung parliament to put together "the most stable team possible" to keep recession-hit Italy in good fiscal shape while boosting growth and helping the needy "who are seeing their situation getting dangerously worse".

No party has a majority in parliament and while President Giorgio Napolitano has said he wants to avoid another election, many analysts see it as likely.
