Acquittal of Amanda Knox in murder trial goes to appeal (ANSA) - Perugia, March 21 - The acquittal of Amanda Knox in a notorious 2007 murder case in the Umbrian city of Perugia will be reviewed Monday by Italy's top appeals court.

Prosecutors are challenging a lower court's acquittal of American Knox and her former Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, charged in the murder of British student Meredith Kercher, 21, on November 2, 2007.

The victim's family is also participating in the appeal.

A third man, Rudy Guede, was sentenced to 16 years in prison in the case. Knox and Sollecito were originally convicted of the murder in December 2009 and were respectively sentenced to 26 and 25 years in prison. However, two years later their guilty verdicts were overturned by a court of appeal.
