Fiat's European sales slide again in February
Italian car manufacturer takes 6.8% of market share

(ANSA) - Rome, March 19 - Italian auto manufacturer Fiat
Group Automobiles saw European sales slump by 15.7% in February
over the same month in 2012 as the downturn in the auto market
and the recession in Italy continued to bite.New Fiat car registrations stood at 55,985 last month against 66,448 the previous February for the latest in a long series of year-on-year drops.
Within the group Alfa Romeo and Lancia/Chrysler registered the biggest drop, respectively down 41.8% and 38.5% over February 2012. The Fiat marque fared better with a fall of 6.7%. Overall the group took 6.8% of market share in Europe, down 0.4% over February 2012 but up 0.2% over January 2013. The Fiat marque accounted for 5.3% of market share against 5.1% the previous February, with the Panda and the 500 models registering the highest number of sales. Results were strongly conditioned by the negative performance of the Italian car market, which saw 17.4% fewer sales in February, Fiat Group said.
