Benedict following conclave 'carefully'

'Great spiritual participation' from pope emeritus

(ANSA) - Vatican City, March 13 - Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI is closely following the conclave to elect his successor, Vatican Spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said Wednesday.

He said Benedict, the first pope to abdicate in 600 years last month, was "following events with great attention, great spiritual participation".
