Italian police find 33 kg cocaine hidden on fruit ship (ANSA) - Savona, March 11 - Thirty-three kilograms of cocaine - worth an estimated five million euros on the street - were seized by Italian financial police on Monday at the port of the northern Italian town of Vado Ligure, near Savona.

The drugs were hidden in two backpacks on the container ship "Cala Pedra" transporting fruit from Colombia to Spain. Working with Italian customs authorities, the financial police inspected the bridge and crew cabins before asking to unload a number of containers destined for the Italian ports of Tarragona and Vado Ligure. With the aid of a digital scanner and canine unit, police discovered the narcotics subdivided in 30 cellophane-wrapped cakes of about one kilogram each.
