Napolitano declines invite to EU Parliament March 13 (ANSA) - Rome, March 7 - Italian President Giorgio Napolitano on Thursday thanked European Parliament President Martin Schulz for inviting him to address the next EU Parliament assembly on March 13.

Napolitano declined as he's too busy forming a new government in Italy, a note from the president's office made known.

"I assure you and all MEPs that I will remain loyal to the European Parliament once my mandate is over, when I become a senator for life as per the Italian Constitution", Napolitano wrote. "I have dedicated long years to the European Parliament as an institution. I will remain an active supporter of the European cause, and of the decisive role of the source of legitimacy of the European project, which is the representation of its citizens as embodied by parliament".
