Benedict's ring scored instead of destroyed (ANSA) - Rome, March 6 - Benedict XVI's papal ring that was destined to be "terminated" following his resignation last month was instead scored on Wednesday, cancelling it out, Vatican Spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said.

According to etiquette, the symbol of the papacy was to be broken after Benedict stepped down February 28.

Known as the Fisherman's Ring, the golden symbol of papal power shows St Peter fishing.
