Florence police arrest 17-year-old for extortion (ANSA) - Florence, March 5 - Police arrested a 17-year-old youth after he extorted money from a disabled 18-year-old woman.

The youth, of Moroccan origin, was arrested by police in a shopping mall where he was scheduled to meet the woman.

According to the police, he had successfully extorted some 6,500 euros in cash and goods, including designer clothes, cell phones and a personal computer. Another 17-year-old youth, of Tunisian origin, is also being investigated by police for the extortion. The woman reportedly met the youths at a party in Florence, where they became friends. Once they gained her trust, the youths asked the girl for a loan to pay off some drug related debts. They then asked her for money to buy various goods.

When the woman said she had no more money to lend them, they threatened to send someone to her house and beat her.

The woman went to the police only after her aunt, who serves also as her tutor, noticed the money missing from the bank account and convinced her to report the extortion.
