Fake bishop at meeting of cardinals identified as German (ANSA) - Rome, March 5 - The fake bishop who snuck into the first general congregation of cardinals has been identified as a known German prankster. "Daniel Napiersky is known here," a German Bishops' Conference spokesman told German media Tuesday. Napiersky was unmasked as an imposter Monday at the Vatican ahead of the first general congregation, which allows cardinals to discuss issues facing the Church ahead of electing a pope at the conclave. But before he was spotted, Napiersky managed to blend in with the huge group of cardinals and prelates from around the world, even posing for pictures with senior Catholic officials. He was eventually nabbed due to a shorter-than-normal habit, an unusual chain and crucifix, and a purple episcopal sash that turned out to be a scarf.
