Russian Church hopes successor pope 'same line' as Benedict
Patriarch fears 'secular' path of Protestant communities

(ANSA) - Moscow, March 4 - The Russian Orthodox Church
hopes that Benedict's successor "continues along the same line
and maintains the same friendly attitude towards the Orthodox
Church," the patriarch's external affairs representative,
Hilarion Alfeyev, said on Monday.The patriarch would like to see a pope who is "in the best sense of the word, a traditionalist...and who will not lead the Catholic Church on the path chosen by many Protestant communities... by adopting modern secular standards," Alfeyev, the Metropolitan of Volokolamsk, said during an interview on Vesti 24 television.
