(ANSA) - Vatican City, March 1 - Benedict XVI retired to the
papal summer residence at Castel Gandolfo south of Rome on
Thursday with ''numerous'' books on theology, spirituality and
history, the Vatican spokesman said on Friday.The pope emeritus's chosen reading material included Hans Urs Von Balthasar's Theological Aesthetics, Father Federico Lombardi said.
The 85-year-old former pope, who shocked the world by becoming the first pontiff in modern history to resign from office last month, also reportedly took several musical recordings.
Benedict XVI will remain at Castel Gandolfo for two months before taking up up residence at a monastery in the Vatican.
