(ANSA) - Rome, February 28 - The U.S. ambassador to Rome,
David Thorne, said Thursday that Washington hopes Italy will
find a solution to the complex post-election situation because
"Italy is an important ally of the USA".Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting in Rome Thursday between new U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Ahmed Moaz al-Khatib, the head of the internationally recognized Syrian opposition alliance, Thorne said: "I have faith in Italy, an important ally".
Following general elections in Italy Sunday and Monday, no clear winner emerged with a working majority in parliament.
Asked by a reporter what type of government alliance the U.S. would like to see emerge, Thorne responded: "It's the Italians who have to express their preference".
